Day 1:
Through the gorge of Lake Koman and into the Albanian Alps
In the morning, we will depart from Tirana for a picturesque journey, docking at Koman’s Dam. Then the amazing cruise through the stunning landscape is a highlight not to be missed in northern Albania! Upon docking at Fierza, our trip continues with a local drive through the narrow valleys of the Valbona Valley. Our transfer concludes in the charming village of Valbona, where we will be accommodated in a local guesthouse. The house’s location serves as an excellent starting point for various hikes in the surrounding mountains.
Day 2
Valbona-Pass
Today, we embark on the renowned path in the Albanian Alps, which has connected the Valbona and Theth valleys for centuries, traversing the Valbona Pass at an altitude of 1860 meters.
Our journey involves utilizing horses to transport our luggage to the next guesthouse. Following a brief 20-minute transfer from the guesthouse to Rrogam, the starting point of our hike, we ascend along a steep trail leading to a side plateau and then follow a narrow, winding road towards Valbona Pass.
The main trail leads us over Valbona Pass, the apex of our trek, offering breathtaking views of the Valbona and Theth Valleys. The ascent to the pass presents a formidable challenge, yet hikers are richly rewarded with sweeping panoramas of the rugged mountains and valleys. Subsequently, we commence our descent towards Thethi village, traversing once more through dense forests and verdant meadows where we pause for a picturesque picnic.
In the afternoon, we will relax in Thethi, renowned as the best-preserved mountain village in Albania. Here, we are accommodated in one of the traditional houses, relishing in exceptional hospitality.
Day 3
Explore the beautiful Thethi and Departure
Thethi stands as the most famous village in northern Albania. From our residence at an altitude of 850 meters, we embark on a downhill stroll to explore various village attractions. These include the temple, Kulla e Ngujimit (a tower house historically utilized by men as a refuge against ongoing retribution), the Thethi River, and the narrow rock formations within the Grunasi gorge, accessible via the wooden bridge at Grela. Notably, surrounding the lake are remnants of late Bronze Age stone walls with terraces, a discovery unveiled only in 2007.
Following a picnic lunch, our journey continues towards The Blue Eye. The trail is clearly marked, following the course of the Shala River.
The transfer arranged upon your return to Nderlysa will take you back to Tirana.
